Obituary of Walter Duggan

Walter James Duggan, a resident of Chatham Kent passed away peacefully at Riverview Gardens on Thursday April 4, 2019 at the age of 82. Walter was born Sept 12, 1936 on his family farm in the Irish Block Community of Owen Sound.

He was the son of the late Michael and Eleanor (Cameron) Duggan. Beloved husband of 32 years to the late Yvonne (Scott) Duggan.

Loving father to James & Kim Duggan of Tecumseh and Michael & Kerry Duggan of Belle River. Devoted Grandpa to Trevor, Hayley, Samuel and Benjamin. Loving husband to Louise (Hulme) Duggan. Dear stepfather to Beatrice (Harold) Jones, dec. Norma, Crystal (Kevin) Orton, Rhonda (Doug) Daniels, Henry Hulme, Kenneth (Paula) Hulme, Ronald (Claudette)  Hulme, Christopher (Cindy) Hulme, Leonard (Melodie) Hulme and Robert (Tonya) Hulme and by  many step grandchildren, great grand children and one great great grandchild. Cherished brother to Rose (dec.Arch) MacDonald, Ruth (dec.Mac) Cundle, Louise (Paul) Hatton and predeceased by brothers Bernie (Susan), Carl (Mary) and sister Ina.

Walter will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.

In 1966 Walter moved from Owen Sound to Chatham. He and Yvonne raised their family on Sunnyside Ave and enjoyed many years in the close neighbourhood community. Walter worked for the Ministry of Transportation until his retirement in 1991. He was a faithful member of St Ursula's Parish, an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion and spent many years volunteering for CHAPS. Walter had a passion for fishing and boating, whether it be off the shores of Lake Erie or in the waters of Mitchell’s Bay or Lake St.Clair. He loved spending his leisure time playing Euchre, darts, horse shoes and bowling. He enjoyed following hockey and baseball and playing the ponies.

Walter will always be remembered for his sense of humor, playful grin, trusty pipe and generous heart.

Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Monday April 8, 2019 from 7-9 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday April 9, 2019 at 11 am with Deacon Steve Cartier officiating.

Cremation will follow.

Donations to the Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be welcomed by the family.

The Duggan Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff of Riverview Gardens for their compassionate and loving care of Walter over these past 3 ½ years.
