Peacefully at Village on the Thames, Chatham, on Friday June 11, 2021, Jean Madeline Gleeson, age 83, of Chatham, beloved wife of the late John Gleeson (2009).  Born in Chatham in 1937, daughter of the late Clarisse (Martens) and Rene Van De Wynckel.

Jean was a graduate of the Ontario Business School.   After graduating she began her working career at the Merlin Hydro until she married John in 1960 and they began their family.  Mom was the true definition of a farmers wife.  Jean loved being surrounded by kids and looking after them.  After raising her children, she began volunteering at St. Joseph Hospital for many years especially with palliative care patients.

Loving mother of Michael, Julia (Ron) Verscheure, Stephen (Colleen) and V. Patrick. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Jonathan (Klaudia), Marcus (Julie), Griffin, Joshua (Harlie Hornick), Alexander and Clarissa and by 2 great grandchildren Erin and Kayla. Also survived by sisters-in-law; Mary VandeWynckel, Stella Vandewynckel Gleason , Mary Anne Roberts, Sister Eleanor Gleeson and Sister Karen Gleeson.

Predeceased by a granddaughter Brittany Verscheure, an infant sister Francine, sister, Alice Ramboer and by brothers Odlyn, Cyril and Robert.   

Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Tuesday June 15, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday June 16, 2021 in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 am.
